The third-year bachelor’s degree "Foreign and Regional Languages, Literatures, and Civilizations" (LLCER) with a specialization in English aims to train English scholars at the highest level.
This year of study is offered in collaboration with Paris-Cité University (Department of English Studies and EILA Department).
The first year of the English DER program at ENS Paris-Saclay enables students to acquire the fundamental skills of an English studies specialist (translation, linguistics, civilization, literature), while supplementing this curriculum with disciplines such as specialized English and terminology. It constitutes the first stage of a 4-year program, which may include the English Agrégation exam.
Classes are held on the Gif-sur-Yvette campus and in Paris’s 13th arrondissement (Grands Moulins).

The M1 LLCER English-Speaking Regions program is completed through an exchange program at an English-speaking partner university of the ENS or Université Paris-Cité. Preparations for the exchange begin in advance, during the third year of the bachelor’s program.
Students take courses at their host university as well as online courses to further their training as English language specialists (linguistics, translation, specialized English).
The M1 year involves writing a preliminary research thesis of about 20 pages.
The Master’s in English-Speaking Regions is jointly accredited by Université Paris-Saclay and Université Paris-Cité.

In their third or fourth year of study, students at the École Normale must choose a specific year of specialization. In the English DER program, these specialized tracks may include:
- The Master 2 in Higher Education Teacher Training (FESup), which prepares students for the external agrégation in English (linguistics and civilization tracks),
- A year of thematic research: artificial intelligence (ARIA) , research and creation (ARCC), Normal School Engagement (ASPEN), among others
- A Year of Research Abroad: ARPE
- A so-called “interface” year to pursue studies outside the field of English. For example, a third-year bachelor’s degree in “Theater Studies” (Sorbonne Nouvelle University), a master’s degree in “Arts and Culture Management” (Panthéon-Sorbonne University), or a master’s degree in “International Relations” (Sciences Po).
Information sessions are held at the DER throughout the program to assist students in choosing their specific track years. Each student also has a degree advisor on the faculty team to review the progress of their academic path (two meetings per year).
In certain cases, students may complete two specialized years, provided they have a specific study plan that is consistent with their professional goals.
A research-oriented Master 2 degree in English-language studies is required as part of the curriculum for students at the École Normale. It can be completed at ENS Paris-Saclay by enrolling in the M2R in English-Language Studies, which is offered in collaboration with Paris-Cité University (Department of English Studies and EILA Department), or at another university, depending on the chosen specialization.
During the M2 R year, students choose a specialization in a field of English-language studies. A research thesis of approximately 100 pages is required.
This year may also be completed abroad.
